MGMT have created some of the greatest contemporary psychedelic music, but are more commonly recognized for their role as a pop group. The songs that brought them stardom were written as a joke, a sort of parody of the mentality and lifestyle that goes along with pop music. Their second and third albums showed a severe loss in the typical pop structure, leaning toward irregular song structures, and abnormal instrumentation. This Thursday afternoon, listen to “Plenty of Girls in the Sea” off of their third, self-titled album, and catch them at Coachella this weekend.
