Harald Grosskopf is not widely known. However, in 1970s Germany he was an influential and recognized figure in the experimental music scene that is now known as “Krautrock”.
In the Summer of 1979, Grosskopf retreated to the countryside with a Moog and an 8-track, emerging months later with his 1980 album Synthesist.
In 2011, RVNG reissued the album as Re-Synthesist, featuring the original material as well as re-workings by the likes of Oneohtrix Point Never, Snoretex and James Ferraro. Listen to “Synthesist”, as well as an alternative version by Snoretex below.
Past and Present is Tavik’s way of paying homage to the musicians that may have been forgotten, but continue to inspire us today. In each installment we take music from earlier generations and compare it to the songs they influence today.
