The TAVIK X Corey Wilson Bleu Boardshort is the collaboration we've been waiting for. Grab an insider's look and read Corey Wilson's inspiration behind these new boardies.

"Working with TAVIK on my collaboration board short “Bleu” has been a really fun project for me.  I have been traveling for Surfing Magazine so much lately and it has often been to tropical locations, which leaves me in trunks a majority of the time."

CoreyWilson5

"For these shorts, I went 19” length to hide my white thighs and included my favorite color ways.  Shooting photos with a camera housing in a variety of waves around the world, it’s not out of the ordinary for me to take frequent beatings.  I love an everyday board short that is flexible and does not resist movement when I need it most, so for the “Bleu” we incorporated Tavik’s 4-way stretch technology.  I wear boardies all of the time and often sleep in them, so I am really pleased that “Bleu” offers a high quality material that maintains comfort from my bed straight to the water."

CoreyWilson7

"I have a great relationship with the team over at TAVIK, and I really support the direction they are headed.  It was great to see how much detail and process they put into creating these shorts and I hope everyone who gets a chance to put them to the test enjoys them as much as I do!"

Orange County, CA- April 7, 2015 – TAVIK, original lifestyle brand cultivated from modern beach culture and world-traveling professional surf photographer, Corey Wilson, have collaborated to craft an elite boardshort that captures Corey’s iconic surf photography style and TAVIK’s original design aesthetics. The exclusive BLEU boardshort is available now at select premium retailers and online shopping destinations including SWELL.COM and TAVIK.COM.

The BLEU Boardshort showcases both Wilson and TAVIK’s appreciation for the modern beach lifestyle with a design that can be worn in the depth of the Moroccan ocean, the city streets of Sydney or lounging on Coastal beaches. Using a blend of premium fabrics, and TAVIK’s 4-Way Stretch Technology, the custom boardshort features striking electric-blue details paired with rich charcoal colors, analogous to Wilson’s renowned surf photography. Features including the side-pocket and waterproof zipper are added details for going from beach to street.

“I love an everyday boardshort that is flexible and does not resist movement when I need it most. I wear boardies all the time and often sleep in them, so I am really pleased that BLEU offers a high quality material that maintains comfort from my bed straight to the water,” said Corey Wilson. “It was great to see how much detail and process TAVIK put into creating these shorts and I hope everyone who gets a chance to put them to the test enjoys them as much as I do!”

Wilson took to the colossal Pipeline waves in Oahu, Hawaii to capture the first photo featuring the TAVIK and Corey Wilson Collaboration Boardshort. With much anticipation, BLEU is available through online retailer, SWELL.COM and retail locations including Jack’s Surfboards, SunCatcher Surf Shop, BLVD1, Galvanic, South End Surf and many more.

Weekend 1 Lineup: The Sets You Don't Want to Miss

#modernbeach

If you’re kicking off festival season with weekend one in the desert, now’s the time to start plotting your festival strategy.

2015's jam packed line-up, which runs over the next two weekends, April 10-12th and April 17-19th, has genres and performers to suit all musical tastes.  With several sets overlapping, we've laid out our plan of action with tough decisions on who not to miss.

Friday

On Friday, you'll have to decide between Azealia Banks (5-5:45pm) and Kiesza (4:55-5:40pm). Here is why we'll be at Kiesza:

Norwegian blooded and Canadian born and raised, Kiesza is a growing name in the industry and a rising star that you don't want to miss. She was brought up as a surprise guest during Skrillex's recent set at Ultra. You probably first heard of her when she worked with Skrillex and Diplo on “Take U There,” a song from the new Jack Ü album. She has also written for other artists such as Rihanna and Icona Pop. We can't wait to see what she has in store for the next two weekends.

Later on Friday, you'll have to choose between Tame Impala (9:15pm - 10:05pm) and Todd Terje (9:20pm -10:15pm). Here is why we'll be at Tame Impala:

All the way from Down Under, Tame Impala is known for their excellent psychedelic rock pieces with a nostalgic yet fresh sound.  Expect trippy vibes and strong guitars from these Australian artists as they grace your ears with what they call "hypno-groove melodic rock music".

Be sure not to miss:

  • AC/DC at the Main Coachella Stage from 10:30pm til closing
  • Alesso at the Sahara Tent from 11:35pm til closing
  • Allah-Las at the Outdoor Theater from 2:10pm - 2:50pm

Saturday

Saturday puts rocker Jack White up against rapper Tyler, the Creator and British newcomer FKA Twigs. Here is why we'll be at FKA Twigs (9:35pm - 10:25pm):

Quirky and talented, her debut album, titled “LP1,” was one of the greatest 2014 saw. According to Red Bull, "It wasn’t flashy. It wasn’t crafted as a statement. But it was singular and excellent. FKA twigs writes poetic lyrics and delicate melodies that only her controlled vocals can deliver."

Be sure not to miss:

  • Tycho at the Mojave Tent from 9:30pm - 10:20 pm
  • The Weeknd on the Main Coachella Stage from 11:25pm til closing
  • Chet Faker at the Outdoor Theater from 5:10pm-6pm

Sunday

Headliner Drake, will be taking us from "0 to 100" Sunday night at the Main Coachella Stage.

Be sure not to miss:

  • Odesza at the Gobi Tent from 9:35pm - 10:25 pm
  • Martin Solveig at the Sahara Tent from 4:50pm - 5:50 pm
  • Mac De Marco at the Outdoor Theater from 3:05pm - 3:50 pm

"In 2012, a striking new voice emerged from the wider surge of electronic music in the U.S." Their captivating and addictive sound is something reminiscent of a dream or a memory.

Odesza is the production duo formed by Harrison Mills, who previously made music as CatacombKid, and Clayton Knight, who previously made music under the name BeachesBeaches. The two became friends while attending Western Washington University and began making music together their senior year. Just months after they graduated, their first album Summer’s Gone took the world by storm.

"Its irresistible, startling dreaminess, addictive drums and fathoms-deep bass set it apart from the by-the-numbers brutality of EDM’s also-rans. In an age of manufactured internet buzz and carefully plotted hype, ODESZA’s story was refreshingly authentic: A brilliant new duo unveiled their music on the internet, and the world paid attention."

If you've been lucky enough to attend one of Odesza's performances, you know just how magical the live instrumentations sound and how fully the live drumming fills your chest cavity. This February, Clayton Knight mentioned in an interview with The Denver Post that they might "add vocalists at some point".  As if their live performances could get any better.

With music so refreshing, intimate and inviting, ODESZA's fanbase continues to explode. Their breakout single, “Say My Name (feat. Zyra),” reached #1 on the Hype Machine's popular chart, #1 on the Spotify US Viral Chart, #2 on the Spotify Global Chart and is currently the #1 most played song on 8Tracks.

Listen to their breakout single, "Say My Name (feat. Zyra)" below.

On Sunset Boulevard lies a building with a dark past. What used to be known as the Bates Motel was recently transformed by Paris-based sculptor and installation artist Vincent Lamouroux.

The motel shut down in 1990's after a history of violence, drug use, and prostitution. Using an eco-friendly limewash, Lamouroux and the downtown Los Angeles gallery Please Do Not Enter, redeemed this old condemned motel and created a work of art titled Projection.

Past and Present Tuesday: Steve Reich and Dan Deacon

TAVIK Blog-Past and Present Tuesday

In the mid-to-late 1960’s, a new approach to composition was on the rise, now known as minimalism. Repetition was favored over structure, meditating on and slowly morphing through rhythm and melody.

Steve Reich was a pioneer within the minimalist scene, writing staple pieces such as Its Gonna Rain, Music for 18 Musicians, and Music for Pieces of Wood. Contemporary artist Dan Deacon draws heavily from minimalism, and bears a very similar approach to rhythm and overall soundscape. Listen to “USA III: Rail” off of the 2012 album America (Known to contain around 60 violin tracks), as well as Steve Reich’s 1976 piece, Music for 18 Musicians.

Past and Present is TAVIK's way of paying homage to the musicians that may have been forgotten, but continue to inspire us today. In each installment we take music from earlier generations and compare it to the songs they influence today.

Tavik in Tulum9

The taxi driver had been circling the unlit streets for over half an hour. It became more and more apparent that the beers and wine we picked up near the airport were going to be the last road map to neon lights and the comforts of western civilization.

“La Casa Blanca?” shouted the cabby again. I may not speak Spanish fluently, but I was thinking the same thing - how hard could it possibly be to find “the white house?” In this moment we were fairly worried, severely lost, and close to giving up off the beaten path in Tulum pueblo.

Tavik in Tulum2

The reality of the situation was that it just hadn’t clicked for us yet. We hadn’t figured out how things worked around here. Sure, we’d been to the regular surf tourist spots: Cabo, Puerta Vallarta and mainland Mexico, but this place was different. Shot girls with whistles and over-sized sombreros weren’t chasing you down the streets. Neither were kids selling chicle. What were we to do? Flip the script. Rather than trying harder to get something done, we learned to stop trying, and instead just let it happen.

Tavik in Tulum22

Of course Tulum is a different kind of place. Consider its roots, as home to the ancient Maya city, Zama, whose ruins still stand overlooking the Caribbean Sea. While walking the grounds, no one else seemed to find it odd as weird raccoon-cat looking hybrid animals spilt out of the jungle and various sizes of dragon lizards sunbathed on the ancient ruins. It's this sort of a surreal, mystic vibe that surrounds you in the town too.

Tavik in Tulum20

A thin street winds along the coast, with dim lit, perfectly designed beach huts and cafes sneaking out of the jungle. More Monaco than Mayan, the street is lined with beautiful palapas and people strolling or biking by in their Caribbean best. The east coast has long favored Tulum, with the fashion crowd particularly taking a fancy to the place. With this rare setting of style and great architecture, Tulum stands out, but one of the best things about the place is you don’t have to.

Tavik in Tulum7

We’ve ditched the taxi, opting for the local transportation of scooters as they zip along the main road. It's warm, but the sun isn’t burning hot. It works with the warm Caribbean air to feel more like an embrace.

Tavik in Tulum11

Tavik in Tulum8

A quick left at an old school roundabout and we’re even more isolated. As thick foliage lets loose, we find ourselves on a remote beach, with milky white sand and clear turquoise waters found only in a place this unique. The beach looks like something out of a film. In fact all of Tulum does; it's not just the water, it’s the design, the lighting at night, and as I mentioned already, the people. They are stylish in a way only this warm climate and jungle breeze could allow. When you pass someone on the road you find yourself feeling a familiarity and wondering, do I know them from Venice? Manhattan? San Francisco? Austin?

Tavik in Tulum5Tavik in Tulum3Tavik in Tulum1

I’m traveling with Carly, the designer for Tavik Swimwear. She’s getting inspiration from everywhere and everything, whether the special scents from Coqui Coqui, natively weaved fabric at the local markets, a dim lit dinner at Posada Margherita, the inspirational indoor-outdoor modern design to Mi Amor hotel, or one of the stylishly dressed attendees found at the wedding we’ve flown here to attend.

Tavik in Tulum16

As soon as the adventure was over, Carly began designing the next line. The wedding could have served as inspiration enough. Born from a Pinterest board overflowing with modern marvels and classic looks, the wedding lived up to the style of the greats – Mick, Bianca, McQueen, and the lot. It's no wonder, being that the groom is near a legend at Next models and the bride a unique style of her own. Rich Navy suits were paired with the perfect selection of tans and banana yellow accents, finished off perfectly, (to quote the official Pinterest board) with “Italian Steez… How To Wear All White and Espadrilles…

Tavik in Tulum10

The only deviation from this dedication to style was the Mariachi band following the ceremony, who had hired a friend to hold an iPad, from which the lead singer sung aloud the lyrics to “Feel Like Making Love” by Bad Company. You’ll have to trust me that this version was better than the original. In fact, if I had to sum up Tulum by making a mix tape, I would follow a similar path. Less Jimmy Buffet (hello Cancun!. Less Pitbull (Hello Rosarito Spring Break!). I would start with a little Disclosure, tune it up with some Toro Y Moi, sprinkle in a slow, reflective Drake song, bounce back with the first track on Caribou’s latest release, and then ease it out in exactly the same way as the Mariachi cover song. With my soul warmed by exotic beaches, mischievous nights, midnight swims, great friends, style, design, and the best ceviche ever, I feel inspired. Tulum, I feel like making love too.
